A man arrested during gun call in Blenheim on Friday is now facing several charges.
Chatham-Kent police reported on Monday that the unidentified 45-year-old man from Blenheim has been charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized, and two counts of careless storage of a firearm.
Police said officers seized a rifle and a shotgun while searching a home on Hannibal Street on Friday.
Police previously said officers responded to a "weapons incident" at a home on Hannibal Street just after 7 a.m. on Friday and took the suspect into custody without incident.
"Upon arrival, officers quickly assessed the situation and engaged in negotiations with a man at the residence to ensure a peaceful resolution," said CK police Public Information Officer Lynette Rosina in a statement issued Friday afternoon. "The officers effectively communicated with the man, ultimately taking him into custody."
Police noted the incident required the deployment of specialized units and resources, including The Critical Incident Response Team, Canine Unit, Criminal Investigation Branch, drones, and the Armoured Rescue Vehicle.
Police issued an alert just after 8:30 a.m. on Friday, urging the public to stay away from the area of Lumley Street, Hall Street, Sandys Street North and Hannibal Street in Blenheim for safety reasons due to an active investigation.
Police issued an update about an hour later saying the situation had been resolved peacefully and the individual involved was safely taken into custody.
