Chatham man accused of luring child online

A Chatham man is facing a child luring charge and a date with a judge after he allegedly used various social media platforms to lure a minor.

Chatham-Kent police said investigators from their Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) started an investigation in March relating to a man luring a child under the age of 16 for a sexual purpose. He was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the case.

The 68-year-old Chatham man, who has not been publicly identified by police, was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

Police said they have also reached out to the victim in the case, adding that they have been offered the necessary support.

Chatham-Kent police will also be holding an online safety presentation later this month in Thamesville, covering topics like sexual predators, trafficking, and luring and how parents can protect their kids from those dangers.
