Male youth arrested for threatening someone with a knife

A 16-year-old from Chatham is facing a pair of charges after he allegedly pulled a flick knife on someone Tuesday evening.

Chatham-Kent police said they made the arrest after they were called to the area of Raleigh Street in Chatham shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers said they learned that a group of youths were walking on Raleigh St. when one of the youths punched a "For Sale" sign.

Police said a bystander confronted the youths about their behaviour and that's when one of the youths pulled out a flick knife and held it in a threatening manner.

A 16-year-old boy from Chatham was arrested in connection with the case and he was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was taken to police headquarters and was later released to a parent with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham man arrested at Toronto airport in domestic violence case

A 30-year-old Chatham man is facing two dozen charges in connection with a family violence investigation that started while he was out of the country.

Chatham-Kent police said their investigation began on March 31 and that they learned that the violence had taken place over several years and affected "several individuals."

Police said they learned the man was out of the country when they were looking for him, so a warrant was issued for his arrest.

He was taken into custody once he returned to Canada at the Pearson International Airport in Toronto.

The accused was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

He is charged with eleven counts of assault, five counts of assault causing bodily harm, four counts of assault with a weapon, and two counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference.

Drunk driver falls asleep at Chatham intersection

A 24-year-old Kent Bridge man who had too many drinks before he got behind the wheel was caught snoozing at an intersection in Chatham early Tuesday morning.

CK police said they caught up with the man while they were responding to a traffic complaint at the intersection of King Street West and Lacroix Street in Chatham at around 5:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers said the reports they received indicated the driver appeared to be asleep at the wheel.

Police said when they found the vehicle, they believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested and taken back to police headquarters for some breath tests.

He was later charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit before he was released with conditions and a future court date.
