Two CK men stopped for racing on a rural road

Life is slowing down pretty quickly for two Chatham-Kent men in their 20's who are facing stunt driving charges after police spotted a pair of vehicles ripping along Merlin Road just west of Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said a member of their traffic unit was conducting speed enforcement on that road near Prairie Siding in Raleigh Township shortly before 4:30 p.m. Thursday when the officer saw two vehicles heading north at a "high rate of speed."

Police said they recorded one vehicle going 150 kilometres per hour and the second one was going 152 km/h as it was passing the first vehicle.

The posted speed limit on that stretch of Merlin Road is 80 km/h.

A 25-year-old Dover Township woman and a 21-year-old Tilbury man were both charged with speeding and stunt driving.

Both of the accused were also given notices to appear in court at a future date.

Their driver's licenses have been suspended for 30 days and both of the vehicles were towed from the scene and will be locked up in an impound lot for 14 days.
