Crash leads to arrests, firearms charges

Three people have been arrested and a half dozen firearms have been seized after a crash on Highway 401.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported several firearms-related charges were laid against a 34-year-old man from Wallaceburg, a 39-year-old woman from Chatham, and a 32-year-old man from Chatham following the two vehicle crash between a transport truck and a vehicle on the westbound lanes of Highway 401 at Highbury Avenue in London on Tuesday.

Police said two people ran away, while a third stayed with the vehicle due to injuries sustained in the collision.

"While attending to the injured party, officers observed a firearm within the vehicle and placed the lone occupant under arrest," police said in a media release issued Wednesday. "The two individuals who initially fled returned to the scene of the collision and were subsequently placed under arrest."

Six more firearms and ammunition were discovered after a more thorough search of the vehicle.

All three people in the vehicle were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
