Man arrested for drug-fueled nap behind the wheel

A 37-year-old Bothwell man is facing drug and impaired driving charges after he was allegedly caught stopping a little too long at a stop sign.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to Victoria Street in Thamesville to check on a man who was seen sleeping at the wheel of his vehicle while he was at a stop sign at Jane Street just before 11 a.m. Thursday.

Police said the officer who found the man believed he was under the influence of drugs and also found some drug-related equipment that contained suspected fentanyl.

The man was arrested and taken to police headquarters for tests and he was later charged with two counts of drug possession and one count of drug-impaired driving.

He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Wanted Lakeshore man turns himself in

A 38-year-old man from Lakeshore who was wanted in connection with a theft investigation in Chatham has turned himself in.

CK police said the man was arrested at police headquarters just after 1 p.m. Thursday.

He was wanted in connection with a theft from a Richmond Street organization in Chatham on April 22.

The accused was arrested and released with conditions and a future court date.

Novice driver booked for driving after hours, impaired driving

A 19-year-old Chatham man who only had a G1 license is facing a handful of charges after he allegedly drove drunk outside of the hours he was supposed to be on the road.

Chatham-Kent police said they pulled the man's vehicle over at 1:30 a.m. Friday after seeing it swerving between lanes while it was going from Thames Street to Grand Avenue in Chatham.

The officer who stopped the vehicle believed the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was also driving outside of the hours allowed with a G1 licence. He's also accused of driving without a qualified driver in the vehicle.

The man was charged with several offences under both the Criminal Code of Canada and the Highway Traffic Act and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

His license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was set to be impounded for a week.

Man Arrested for Multiple Commercial Break and Enters

A 27-year-old Chatham-Kent man has been arrested and charged following investigations into four commercial break and enters in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was taken into custody on Wellington Street East in Chatham Tuesday night after matching the description of the suspect in the break and enters.

"Officers were able to establish a connection between the arrested individual and several other commercial break and enter investigations," said police.

In total, he has been linked to eight separate investigations from April 22, 2024 to May 27, 2024, all within the Chatham area, according to police.

The man is facing several charges, including possession of a stolen credit card, theft, two counts of possession of stolen property, and eight counts of break and enter.
