Call about suspicious activity leads to arrest

A 34-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing a mischief charge after he was allegedly seen trying to break into some vehicles in Chatham early Sunday morning.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the area of Stanley Avenue in Chatham shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday, adding that the man was also allegedly damaging property and intimidating people.

Officers found the man and arrested him.

He was charged with mischief and was taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Impaired driver at Kingston Park

A 56-year-old Chatham-Kent man is charged with impaired driving after he was allegedly seen slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle at Kingston Park in Chatham.

CK police said they were called to the area at 9:40 a.m. Sunday and believed the man was under the influence of an intoxicating substance.

As such, he was arrested and taken to the OPP station for tests.

The accused was later charged with impaired driving before he was released with conditions and a future court date.

Man accused of assaulting woman during argument

A 24-year-old Chatham man is facing an assault charge after he allegedly assaulted a woman while she was trying to leave after an argument.

Police said officers were called to the residence at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

The accused was arrested and taken to police headquarters before he was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Man accused of damaging vehicles on Peachtree Lane

A 22-year-old Chatham-Kent man is facing a trio of mischief charges after he allegedly damaged three vehicles on Peachtree Lane in Chatham over the noon-hour on Sunday.

Police got that call just after 12:30 p.m. and also learned that the man had previously been ordered to stay away from the specific address where the mischief took place.

Officers found him on Argyle Street and arrested him.

He was charged with three counts of mischief and one count of failing to comply with his release conditions before he was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Chatham woman arrested for assaulting man she was banned from meeting

A 36-year-old Chatham woman is facing three charges after she allegedly assaulted a man who she had been ordered to stay away from.

CK police said they were called to the address in Kent Bridge just before 3 p.m. Sunday and learned that a woman who had shown up there started arguing with a man.

The argument then escalated to the point where the woman allegedly assaulted the man.

Officers said their investigation also showed that the woman had been released from custody twice in the past nine months with conditions that banned her from going to any place where that specific man was known to live, work, or go to school.

Police said despite those orders the woman had shown up at the man's address on Saturday and Sunday.

She was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply with her release conditions and one count of assault and was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Court skipper arrested after parking lot snooze

A well-being check on a man who was sleeping in a parking lot in Chatham led to his arrest Sunday evening.

CK police said the man was seen sleeping in a parking lot on Adelaide Street North in Chatham at around 7:30 p.m.

When officers went to check on him, they learned that he was wanted for failing to attend court for a breach of probation investigation, so he was arrested.

He was later released with a new court date.
