LKDSB approved balanced budget for 24-25 school year

The Lambton-Kent District School Board has approved a balanced budget for the upcoming school year.

Last week, trustees approved the $369.36 million budget at its board meeting for September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2025.

In a news release, the school board said the revenue forecast is based on the Ministry of Education's Core Education funding formula.

The total provincial education budget equals $28.6 billion.

About $38 million will be going towards capital projects, including building upgrades, school condition improvement and capital priorities.

"One of the LKDSB's Strategic Priorities is 'Sustainable Stewardship: Optimize human, financial and physical resources," said Director of Education John Howitt. "This requires us to regularly assess and prioritize our budgeting processes to ensure that we are supporting all of the other strategic priorities, including Student Achievement and Well-being; Inclusive Diversity and Trusting Relationship."

"We appreciate the ongoing efforts of staff to put students first and make responsible decisions to maximize student programming and funding allocations that support student success and well-being," said Howitt.

Board Chair Randy Campbell said he's pleased to see a balanced budget.

"We know the incredible amount of time, effort and work that it took from the LKDSB staff team to get to this point," he said.
