Duo arrested following theft at Chatham business

Chatham-Kent police have arrested two people after a theft investigation at a business in Chatham.

Police were called to the business on St. Clair Street near Pioneer Line, just before 3 p.m. on Thursday. When they arrived, officers learned that a man had filled two carts with the store's merchandise and left without paying.

According to police, they were able to identify the suspect's vehicle and track it. Officers pulled the vehicle over on Highway 40, south of Claymore Line.

During the traffic stop, police determined that the man initially provided them with a fake name. Once he was positively identified, officers learned that the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court. Further investigation found that the female passenger was also wanted on a warrant.

A 40-year-old Wallaceburg man is facing charges of theft, possession of stolen property, obstructing police, failing to attend court, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

A 41-year-old Walpole Island woman faces three counts of driving a vehicle while prohibited.

Suspicious vehicle leads to chase, arrest

A 28-year-old man is facing charges of possessing stolen property under $5,000 and resisting arrest after a suspicious vehicle was spotted in Chatham

Around 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, police responded to a suspicious vehicle parked by the Thames River on Thames Street.

Investigators discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Windsor. They attempted to arrest the man inside the vehicle but said he took off running.

After a brief foot chase and reported struggle, the man was arrested. A search of the man led to the discovery of multiple bank cards, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and police believe there could be further charges.

Wallaceburg man faces assault charges

CK police have arrested a Wallaceburg man after an argument got out of hand.

Police were called to an address on Taylor Avenue in Chatham shortly after 2:30 a.m. Friday.

Officers determined that a man and a woman got into a verbal fight before things escalated and the man allegedly damaged the woman's property and attacked her. It was also discovered that there were court orders against the man, prohibiting him from communicating with or being near the woman.

According to police, the accused took off before officers arrived but he was quickly located and arrested.

The 32-year-old man faces charges including assault, obstructing the police, failing to comply with a release order, and two counts of mischief.

He was taken to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.

Man facing assault, theft charges arrested for skipping court

A wanted man is facing another charge after he was arrested for not showing up to court.

Police said that an officer recognized the man on Queen Street Thursday night and attempted to stop him.

The suspect led police on a short foot chase before he was finally arrested.

A 30-year-old Chatham man is facing charges of assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, possession of stolen property, theft, and two counts of failing to attend court.
