Public input wanted as Backyard Chicken By-law takes shape

The municipality wants the public to weigh in on the potential backyard chicken pilot program.

The program would allow people to keep hens on rural residential and village residential properties. The draft by-law will lay out the regulations, including provisions for animal health and welfare, licensing, building permits, and fees.

To collect feedback, a survey is available on a Let's Talk CK page until September 19.

At 6 p.m. on September 19, an in-person information session will be held at the Ken Houston Memorial and Agricultural Centre (1212 North St.) in Dresden. This session will be live-streamed on the Municipality’s Facebook page and YouTube channel for those who want to participate at home.

All of the data will be provided to Chatham-Kent Council alongside the draft Backyard Chickens By-law this fall.
