Run for the Cure looking for volunteers

The CIBC Run for the Cure is coming up on Sunday, October 6.

The Chatham-Kent event will take place at John McGregor Secondary School, with a 1K or 5K walk/run around Mud Creek Trail at 10:30 a.m.

All of the money raised goes to support local residents who are battling breast cancer.

"Wigs for people who have lost their hair. They support treatments, they do transportation to and from your appointments if you maybe can't drive or you live further away," said Stacy Suitor, community communication and social media lead for the Chatham run. "There's a lot of funding that goes out and it's spread out all over the area."

One in every eight women in Canada will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The Run for the Cure is a very personal event for Suitor, which is why she got involved.

"I am a breast cancer survivor, I'm approaching my third year of being cancer-free. I have used some of the funding from the CIBC Cure to help get me through my treatments as well," said Suitor.

Volunteers are still needed for the event and is a great way for high school students to get some volunteer hours.

"We need people to come out and help set up, people to help tear down, and people to just kind of be there to help run the different stations throughout the day," said Suitor. "Our team is growing this year, which we're excited about, and each year our goal is to get this bigger and better."
