Holiday with a Hero will take place Saturday, December 14, seeing 80 children join police, firefighters, and paramedics for a day of holiday cheer.
The event aims to make a memorable holiday for 80 children nominated from the community and help foster positive relationships between them and emergency service personnel.
Heroes include members of the Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS), Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA), Ontario Parks - Rondeau Provincial Park, Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), and Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue (CKFR).
According to organizers, the children will each be given a loaded gift card and, alongside their hero partner, they'll be tasked with finding gifts for themselves and for their families. After shopping, the kids will have breakfast with Santa and spend some time having fun with their heroes while elves wrap the newly acquired gifts.
The event will include bouncy castles, face painting, and a procession of emergency vehicles.
Beginning at approximately 9 a.m., the procession will escort the participants from the shopping location on St. Clair Street to the John D. Bradley Convention Centre on Richmond Road in Chatham.
