A man from Thunder Bay has won the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation's (CKHAF) Holiday Fundraiser Grand Prize.
Matthew Baumann had the winning ticket number CK 28075385 in the 50/50 draw drawn on Thursday at noon.
Baumann won $65,200 and plans to take a trip to Europe this summer with the winnings.
“We would like to congratulate Matthew and all our other local Early Bird winners. We’ve never awarded this many prizes before, and it’s incredible to see the scope of this 50/50 fundraiser continue to grow and to witness such widespread enthusiasm for advancing healthcare in Chatham-Kent,” said CKHAF President and CEO Christine Mitchell. “We’re so grateful to everyone who purchased tickets and supported the purchase of a crucial piece of equipment for our hospital!”
The draw also included $10,000 in total Early Bird prizes awarded to 13 local winners from across Chatham-Kent, according to CKHAF.
According to the Foundation, he won another hospital lottery about a year ago, which inspired him to continue to support other hospital 50/50 draws throughout Ontario.
Baumann took home more than $475,000 in a Sudbury hospital 50/50 draw in March 2024, according to the Sudbury Star.
"I won another lottery about a year ago, so I’ve been participating in a number of other hospital 50/50s as a way of giving back and supporting some great causes in communities across Ontario," Baumann said. "When I got the call, I thought that it must have been for one of the Early Birds and I was shocked to learn that I had won the grand prize. Thank you to the CKHA Foundation and to everyone who participated and supported this awesome fundraiser."
CKHAF said a total of $130,000 was raised to help buy a new Fluoroscopy machine for Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.
"We are so thankful for your continued commitment which has helped to make this 50/50 another huge success!" said CKHAF officials. "Your generosity will help us purchase a vital piece of imaging equipment that will have a profound impact on local hospital patients for years to come!"
Another 50/50 drawn is being planned for the Spring.
