Family Day wasn't so fun for at least one homeowner in Chatham.
At around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue received reports of a home on fire on Patteson Avenue.
When crews arrived, they found smoke and flames coming out of the back of the house.
Additional firefighters were called as the fire had quickly spread to the attic and spaces in the walls.
They decided to cut holes into the roof to gain better access to the fire, eventually getting it under control and later extinguished.
Fortunately, no one was home at the time.
The damage is believed to be around $400,000.
The exact cause of the fire wasn't shared by Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue.
