There will soon be more public art to admire in Chatham-Kent.
Brio Academy has been selected as a host location for Mural Mosaic's Global Roots Project.
The artwork is made up of hundreds of individually painted tiles from artists of all ages and skill levels across Canada and the globe, including some of Brio's own students. Each tile is designed to reflect the artists' perspective on the themes of home, family, and connection.
"This mural mosaic is a perfect reflection of what we strive to teach our students every day - that art is a bridge between people, a way to tell stories, and a way to strengthen our community," said Rachel Schwarz, founder and Artistic Director of Brio Academy. "It's one of a handful of murals in this group that are being installed across Canada."
Schwarz added that most of the other mural locations are in more urban centres, making the choice of Chatham-Kent unique.
"The artist, Lewis Lavoie, chose Brio as a location because of our commitment to teaching the arts in CK," Schwarz shared.
Lavoie was responsible for taking all of the individual tiles and composing the final image. He will be in Chatham for the official reveal of the mosaic mural.
The mural will be unveiled at 11 a.m. on February 25 at Brio Academy (330 Richmond Street).
