Police arrest one man, still looking for second suspect in weapons case

Chatham-Kent police have tracked down one suspect and they are still looking for a second person after finding a pair of guns that were hidden in a bed in Wallaceburg.

Police said their investigation started on February 24 when they were called to keep the peace as a homeowner searched a Wallaceburg residence where a man and a woman had been evicted.

Officers said while they were at the home, they found two firearms that were hidden between the mattress and the headboard in the bedroom.

Both of the guns didn't have the required safety locks on them and one of them had also been altered, making it a banned weapon.

Police also learned that neither the man who was previously in the home was under a lifetime ban on possessing firearms or ammunition that was issued in March 2023. The woman didn't have a valid firearms license, either.

Officers couldn't track the pair down right away, so they obtained a warrant for their arrest.

Police arrested the 39-year-old Chatham-Kent man who was wanted in the case on Duncan Street in Wallaceburg on Tuesday.

He was charged with several firearms-related offences and was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 40-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is still on the wanted list.

Chatham man arrested after 911 domestic violence call

A 37-year-old Chatham man with a history of ending up on the wrong side of the law is facing more charges after he was arrested in a domestic violence case.

Chatham-Kent police said they responded to a Chatham residence late Tuesday night after someone called 911 to report a "distressing situation".

Police said when they arrived, they found the man inside the home "exhibiting concerning behaviour," which included damaging some drywall with pliers.

Officers arrested the man and also learned that he had been released on a probation order related to some previous domestic charges involving the same victim.

The accused was charged with failing to comply with a probation order, mischief, uttering threats, and assault with a weapon.

He was taken into custody and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
