A trial for a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police officer accused of killing a man on Highway 401 started in Chatham Superior Court on Monday.
Sean O'Rourke, 57, is charged with manslaughter in connection to the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old man near Ridgetown in July 2021.
O'Rourke was responding to a gas theft when the victim was shot in the upper torso.
The man later died at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.
The trial is expected to last 7-8 days.
