Former Chatham school set to be demolished

Demolition work is set to start on a former Chatham school.

St. Agnes Catholic School on 55 Croydon Street is being torn down in favour of new affordable housing.

According to the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, primary demolition work will get underway next week.

"The Municipality of Chatham-Kent recognizes the sensitive history of the building for some residents and has been in contact with these community members to ensure that items of particular sentimental value are preserved," read a press release from the municipality.

The entire demolition process is expected to cost around $200,000. The funds were previously approved in the 2025 municipal budget.

The process is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.

The municipality's administration plans to present some affordable housing options for the property to CK's council in the near future.
