CK sending several athletes to OFSAA competitions

A number of teams and athletes from Chatham-Kent are taking on the best from across the province this week.

The senior girls' rugby team from Ursuline College Chatham (UCC) won bronze at the 'AAA' tournament on Wednesday, June 4 in Aurora.

The 9th-seeded Lancers took down Kitchener C.I. in the bronze medal match, winning it in overtime 22-17.

The Lancers won their first match on Monday, June 2, beating a team from Ottawa 33-14. Then they upset the number-one seeded team from Guelph 14-7 on Tuesday to advance to the semi-finals, where they lost 26-5 to a school from Caledon.

The senior boys' soccer team from UCC is in Kingston for the 'AAA' OFSAA tournament. The Lancers will play two pool play games on Thursday and two more on Friday.

The senior boys' soccer team from Tilbury District High School (TDHS) is at the 'A' provincial tournament in Welland. The Titans play two pool play games on Thursday, and two more on Friday.

The OFSAA Track and Field meet is taking place at York University in Toronto, June 5-7. 15 athletes from Chatham-Kent qualifed for the provincial championships.

Noah VanNeck from Chatham-Kent Secondary School (CKSS) will compete in the novice boys shot put and discus after winning gold and silver at the West Region meet in London.

Brooke Bentley from CKSS will compete in senior girls shot put after winning the West Region.

UCC's Madeline Verbeek qualified for OFSAA in three events: novice girls 300-metre hurdles, 400 metres, and the 800 metres.

Gracie VanderGriendt from CKSS will compete in the junior girls 1,500 metres and 3,000 metres.

UCC's Aislyn Dehoey qualified for the novice girls triple jump.

Aiden Winter from CKSS will compete in junior boys triple jump

Jeramiah Zomerman from Chatham Christian High School qualified in senior boys high jump.

UCC's DJ Destang-Phillip will compete in senior boys long jump.

Gisele McKaig from CKSS will compete in the novice girls long jump, while Gebet Osei qualified for the novice girls 100 metres.

McKaig, Osei, along with teammates Jemmoy Campbell and Lia Hillman also qualified for the novice girls 4x100-metre relay.

Kinser Rivest from Lambton-Kent Composite School (LKCS) will compete in junior boys long jump.

UCC's Lily Babin qualified for junior girls high jump

Seth Mallette from UCC will compete in novice boys triple jump.
