Two local Beer Stores to close

The Beer Store has announced another round of closures, as the market continues to change.

"The retail market for beer is changing in Ontario, and for The Beer Store that means making the difficult decision to close some retail locations. This is not an easy decision and not one we make lightly," Ozzie Ahmed, Beer Store Vice President of Retail, said in a statement. "We are modernizing operations and focusing on what we do best, selling ice-cold beer, great customer service, and a world-leading recycling system that gets customers their deposit money back."

The Beer Store in Bothwell (160 Oak St) is set to shut down by August 24. The store in Ridgetown (Erie St. S) is slated to close as of September 14.

Ahmed noted that The Beer Store will try to help any workers who may be about their jobs.

"All efforts will be made to support employees through this process in alignment with commitments and agreements," he said.

In 2024, The Beer Store distributed 2.92 million hectoliters of beer to over 13,000 customers.

The company is described as one of the greenest retailers in the world, collecting and recycling about 1.6 billion alcohol beverage containers per year.
