Young entrepreneurs to be showcased in Blenheim

Vendors and small businesses run by people between the ages of 6 and 17 will be in the spotlight on Saturday.

Talbot Trail Place will host the first-ever Youth Entrepreneurship Fair from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 16. At last check, 37 children will be there to show off their businesses.

"We have some that do canvas art, there's many sewing projects that the children have been working on," said organizer Debbie Brush. "Crocheting, knitting, there's freezie sales, loom art, 3D prints, There’s children that have been collecting beach glass and making beach art. Some of the pictures that I've seen these children have created amazing things that they're going to be selling or promoting on Saturday."

When asked why she wanted to put on an event for young entrepreneurs, Brush said she was inspired by the kids who would come to Art in the Park in Blenheim, and wanted to be involved.

"Why not have something for specifically for the children, instead of their parents and them selling things together," said Brush. "This way, the parents are still in the background, but the children are the ones that are doing the selling and the promoting."

So far, the community of Blenheim has been very supportive of the event.

"I went to the Rotary Club and I said, ‘I'd like to do this because I think they learn a lot of skills through doing something like this in terms of marketing, communication, sales with their money.’ So I thought, why not," said Brush.

The Blenheim Youth Centre will be doing a bake sale and BBQ. For more information on the Youth Entrepreneurship Fair, visit the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/678871545001505.
