ROCK hosts first in-centre Thanksgiving meal

Over 100 people experiencing homelessness celebrated Thanksgiving with hot meals provided by Reach Out Chatham-Kent (ROCK).

The non-profit organization served 70 meals at its Chatham drop-in site and 58 meals at its Wallaceburg location.

This is the first time ROCK has offered the meal at its centres rather than doing outreach, and according to the Executive Director Renee Geniole, their success this year will lead to them doing more in the future.

“Knowing that Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter are usually the three big holidays, we definitely should be putting more focus on those for people that don't have families to go celebrate with,” said Geniole.

The holiday meal was funded by an employee's family, who donated the hams and fixings that were distributed.

ROCK still has plans to hand out meals for Christmas, which remains the busiest time of year for the organization.
