Hundreds of alleged speeders were stopped by Chatham-Kent (CK) police during Canada Road Safety Week.
Police said the annual seven-day national campaign, held last week, is dedicated to making Canada’s roads safer by encouraging responsible driving habits.
The goal is to save lives and reduce injuries by eliminating impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving, and encouraging seatbelts to be worn.
CK police noted officers issued a total of 479 tickets and laid 10 criminal offences.
They also said 13 R.I.D.E. programs were conducted, stopping 1,478 vehicles.
The following charges were laid and tickets issued during the campaign:
Three alcohol-impaired driving charges
One drug-impaired driving charge
One alcohol-refusal charge
Five seven-day licence suspensions
One dangerous driving criminal charge
Two driving while prohibited criminal charges
Five electronic device offences
364 speeding offences
115 other unidentified provincial offences
