The executive director of the Active Lifestyle Centre in Chatham is hoping to represent Wallaceburg on Chatham-Kent's (CK) next municipal council.
Victoria Stewart has put her name forward for the election, choosing to run in the ward she previously worked in for over five years at the Adult Activity Centre.
She told CK News Today her decision to run stems from her wanting to support a community she's grown quite fond of.
"I want to continue with my involvement in the community. I've seen firsthand what the challenges are like, what the people there are trying to do to improve their community," she explained.
If elected, Stewart would like to improve local infrastructure, housing, community safety, and economic development.
"Those are the things I've found that Wallaceburg is really looking for," she added.
Stewart also wants to meet with more residents to see if they believe the next council needs to address any other issues.
Despite not having any political experience, she believes her community work has prepared her for the role.
"Not only do I know Wallaceburg people, the community, the organizations, and the businesses, but I've also worked extensively with various committees within the municipality overall. That [knowledge] is the kind of thing that you need," said Stewart.
CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
