Sharks Hope Changes Draw Fans

The Wheatley Sharks will take the ice in blue and white this year with a new name and a new logo.

The Jr. C hockey team is now operating as the Wheatley Omstead Sharks.

General Manager Pete Anthony says it's a tribute to when the team was called the Wheatley Omsteads and not part of a sponsorship deal.

"That was not the intent at all, the intent was to help support us -- the new ownership brought this up and it wasn't asked for or any part of a sponsorship-type thing," says Anthony, adding the Omstead name had been associated with the team for decades. "The Omstead team goes back to probably in the old South Essex league back to the 1950s -- we just felt there's a lot of alumni, so maybe that would help draw people back into the stands for us."

The Sharks are also going back to playing home games on Monday nights instead of Saturdays in a bid to get more fans out to the games.
