The first Flyers game at the newly named Highbury Canco arena in Leamington is a winning one.
The Flyers dominated the Strathroy Rockets in a scrappy 5-1 victory.
"Winning in front of the home crowd, nothing better than that," says Flyers forward Mark Gangnon, finishing with two goals and an assist in the game.
The former Amherstburg Admirals player is off to a hot start with the Flyers scoring seven points through the first three games. He feels getting off to a winning start on home ice is crucial for his new team.
"Especially the home opener, always a big one to take home. You got to get the first win, it basically tells you what your season is going to be like," says Gangnon.
Scott Florence and Mitch Amante both finished with a pair of points each for the Flyers.
Four game misconducts were given out for a pair of fights and two more misconducts were given to close out the third period as Strathroy and Leamington players tangled after the whistle. In total, 88 penalty minutes were handed out by referees.
Attendance was announced at 645 fans.
