Belle River native and former Chatham Maroon defencemen Steven Szekesy is joing the Kingsville Kings in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League.
Szekesy says it's a league a lot of players who have aged out of other leagues are talking about.
"This league they're taking it so professionally just from what I've seen through Kingsville, even with how the coaching staff deals with all the overage guys," says Szekesy. "It's great to have a league like this for the guys that actually still want to play the game, but just never go the chance to go somewhere with it."
Szekesy knows it's not going to be easy to crack the Kings lineup after seeing the team in action.
"It's a little nerve wracking. When you're walking into a team that's 11-0 and they're all laughing and you're the new guy in the room, it'll take a little bit of getting used to," says Szekesy. "Hopefully I can show them what I can do and I'll crack the lineup one day."
The Kings have a perfect record of 11-0 on the season and are top of the South Division. The Kings next hit the ice in London against the Lakers on October 23.
