A Windsor physician will look after Team Canada at this year's World Junior Hockey Championship in Helsinki, Finland.
Dr. Roy Diklich, who also works with the Windsor Spitfires, has been working for Hockey Canada over the past 12 years.
This will be his second trip with the Under-20 squad.
"It's the pinnacle of junior hockey, and there's a lot of excitement and interest in this tournament. Me being a (hockey) fan as well, I'm just really grateful and privileged to be a part of this experience," says Diklich.
Diklich says he'll not only look after injuries that might occur during play, but coordinate efforts with hospitals overseas, if needed, and share information with coaches and families, home clubs and NHL clubs.
Spitfires therapist Joey Garland is also travelling with Team Canada, and will be teaming up with Diklich to educate players on hydration, jet lag, and sleep management.
Windsor Spitfires Associate Coach Trevor Letowski rounds out the local representation on this year's squad.
Team Canada's training camp opens today.
