Four Spitfires Nominated For OHL Awards

Three Windsor Spitfire players and their head coach have been nominated for the Ontario Hockey League awards.

Christian Fischer has been nominated for the Red Tilson Award, which is given to the league's most valuable player. The 19-year-old topped the Spitfires in scoring with 40 goals and 50 assists during his first OHL season.

Michael DiPietro is also nominated for the Rookie of the Year award. The 16-year-old Amherstburg native scored 16 wins with a .912 save percentage and a 2.45 goals against average in 29 games played.

Mikhail Sergachev has been nominated as the league's top defenceman. The 17-year-old is projected top 10 pick in this summer's NHL Draft in Buffalo. He had 57 points in 67 games.

As well, Head Coach Rocky Thompson has been nominated for the OHL Coach of the Year. Thompson helped the Spitfires to a 35-point turnaround, recording 40 wins in his first season behind the bench.

The OHL awards will be handed out during a ceremony on June 7 in Toronto.
