Jacoby Ellsbury hit a two-run homer, then added an RBI single to lead the Yankees over the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 Monday afternoon. Blue Jays pitcher R.A. Dickey gave up five runs and seven hits in four innings in his second shortest start this season.
However, the San Diego Padres edged the Boston Red Sox 2-1 to keep Boston a full game behind Toronto for top spot in the American League East Division.
Elsewhere, Justin Upton hit a three-run home run in the 11th inning as the Detroit Tigers beat the White Sox 5-3 for their 11th win in 14 games. Miguel Cabrera homered twice as the Tigers stayed tied with Baltimore for the second AL wild card spot.

New Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Frederik Andersen won't be suiting up for Team Europe at the World Cup of Hockey. The Leafs say Andersen will be sidelined for the next 3-to-4 weeks with an "upper-body injury."
