Sports Briefs – September 14, 2016

Alexei Ramirez hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning, and Tampa Bay was able to hold on the rest of the way for a 6-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Russell Martin made it a 3-2 game an inning later with a two-run home run, but Toronto's bullpen couldn't contain the Rays the rest of the way.

Meanwhile -- Tigers pitcher Matt Boyd had his worst outing of the season as Detroit lost 8-1 to Minnesota. Boyd went just three-and-two-third innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits.

The Tigers are two games back of the second A-L wildcard spot.

In other baseball news -- Vin Scully says the last ballgame he will broadcast is the Dodgers' regular-season finale, regardless of whether they reach the playoffs.

The 88-year-old announcer says his Hall of Fame career will end October 2nd in San Francisco.

Buffalo Sabres forward Ryan O'Reilly has been added to Canada's 23-man roster for the World Cup of Hockey 2016. He replaces injured Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin.

Seguin played in back-to-back pre-tournament games against Team U-S-A, but is now out with a lower-body injury.
