Sports Briefs - September 21, 2016

Jay Happ became the major leagues' second 20-game winner as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Seattle Mariners 10-2 to move into first in the A-L wild-card race. Russell Martin and Michael Saunders each hit a two-run homer as Toronto moved a game ahead of Baltimore.

Meanwhile -- Detroit is still 2-and-a-half games behind the Blue Jays after the Tigers downed Minnesota 8-1. James McCann hit a three-run homer and Miguel Cabrera added a two-run shot for Detroit.

Matt Duchene had a pair of goals to lead Canada past the United States 4-2 at the World Cup of Hockey. Goaltender Carey Price made 34 saves as Canada advanced to the semifinals of the tournament and the U-S was eliminated.

Earlier, goalie Henrik Lundqvist made 36 saves in Sweden's 2-0 win over Finland.
