Sports Briefs – September 27, 2016

The Yankees scored five runs in the ninth inning and shut down Toronto's comeback attempt for a 7-5 win over the Blue Jays on Monday.

Things started getting ugly early and often as the Jays and Yankees cleared their benches twice in the second inning. Jays relief pitcher Joaquin Benoit was apparently injured in the dust-up and was later seen leaving the stadium on crutches.

Elsewhere -- Cleveland wrapped up the AL Central crown with a 7-4 victory over Detroit. The Tigers are two games behind Baltimore for the second and final wild card spot in the American League.

The Dresden Kings edged the Wheatley Sharks 4-3 in Jr. C hockey action.

Tevin Coleman rushed for three touchdowns and Matt Ryan passed for two touchdowns as Atlanta beat the winless New Orleans Saints 45-32 on Monday Night Football. The Saints are now 0-3 to start the season while the Falcons improve to 2-1 on the year.
