The days of having to go to London police headquarters to get a police check are gone, at least for some people.
Police announced Monday that applications for police checks can now be filled out online. However, in order to do so, you have to have a credit history. That's because the process of confirming the identity of the person applying involves a series of questions about the applicant's credit history.
Without a credit history, an applicant will have to get their police check the old fashioned way, by filling out forms at police headquarters on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays between 8:30am and 4pm.
The goal of the online application system is to improve customer service and reduce backlogs, according to police.
There's no difference in the cost of applying online or in person. The cost is $45 if the police check is for an employment purpose, $15 if it is for volunteering.
