Bishop Townshend Public School will be renamed East Carling Public School.
Officials say the name represents the new school community, which will have students from both Bishop Townshend and Lorne Avenue Public School.
Lorne Avenue officially closes in June of 2016. Bishop Townshend is now under construction to accommodate all the new students from that school.
The name change will happen on July 1, 2016.
London's Carling District is named after John Carling. He represented both the provincial and federal government around the time of confederation. The neighbourhood stretches between Adelaide St. and Highbury Ave. from the Thames river in the north to the CN Rail tracks in the south.
The board decided to close Lorne Avenue Public School and send the students to either St. Georges Public School and Bishop Townshend Public School, based on where they lived.
Lorne Avenue will remain open for the 2015-2016 school year as renovations are done at Bishop Townshend.
