It looks as if Rock The Park will be a five day long festival this year in London's Harris Park.
The Corporate Services Committee approved an amendment to the special events bylaw, allowing for the festival to run from Tuesday, July 14 to Saturday, July 18. Organizers had previously planned to take a break on the Friday night since the bylaw capped events in the park at four nights.
The annual festival is a fundraiser for Bethany's Hope Foundation, which raises money for research into Metrachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD).
"We saw an opportunity to raise more money for research and one more night at Rock The Park could eliminate one of our major fundraisers that we have to do along with Rock The Park to keep that research going here in London," says Dave McIntyre with Bethany's Hope Foundation. "For us, it's about research and working towards a clinical trial in 2018. As far as the impact to the economy and downtown, finally they (councillors) started to realize it."
McIntyre tells BlackburnNews.com who will play on the Friday night is still a mystery.
"We look after everything in front of that stage... anything behind that stage and the talent we leave to our good friends at Jones Entertainment."
The event does not have any classic rock acts booked for this year.
The event extension still must pass final approval at next week's council meeting.
