High School Teachers Negotiating New Contract

As high school teachers across the province are walking off the job, officials at the local branch of the Ontario Secondary School Teacher's Federation are scheduling more contract talk meetings.

High school teachers across the Thames Valley District School Board have been without a contract since August of 2014.

Provincial level talks fell apart last week, spurring strikes in Durham, Peel and the Sudbury regions.

"We do communication, but we're not tied together. We are the local and we're in charge of our own destiny, we set our own course here but we do obviously monitor what happens around us," says District 11 President Blair Middleton, who notes strike action on other areas will not influence local talks. "We've been working this school year without a contract, we've had meetings and have meetings scheduled for the future."

Middleton would not say what the main issues were at the bargaining table.

The board and teachers meet next on April 30.
