Manufacturing Think-Tank Development In London

The National Research Council of Canada is getting $5-million to upgrade its London facility to create a "Factory of the Future" program.

The funding is part of the $5.8-billion investment in infrastructure projects Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced back in November in London.

The NRC's London facilities will allow Canadian companies to access research support when it comes to things like product development, systems engineering and advancements in additive manufacturing.

The government says these types of investments are aimed at strengthening the Canadian manufacturing landscape by giving companies access to technology and expertise.

It will also allow companies to test out new technologies and develop valuable cross-sector partnerships.

According to the federal government, manufacturing is responsible for 11% of Canada's GDP and the employment of 1.5-million Canadians.
