Boater Rescued On Lake Erie

A Kitchener man is safe after quick-thinking saved him from going down with his canoe on Lake Erie.

Police say on July 18, 2015 just before noon, a 60-year-old man sent text messages to a friend telling them his canoe was taking on water.

The friend immediately called Norfolk County OPP.

Investigators say the OPP Marine Unit was able to contact the man and found him west of Long Point near Cedar Creek.

Police are using the incident to remind all boaters to be prepared for anything that can happen while on the water.

“Boating is a great activity and the OPP are urging everyone to be prepared for a day on the water, it will increase your safety and enjoyment of boating,” says Sergeant Jim Millson, Norfolk County OPP Detachment Marine Coordinator.
