Talbot St. Bridge Earns Its Stripes

After being hit at least three times this year, the Talbot St. rail bridge is now painted with bright yellow stripes.

The goal is to improve driver awareness and serve as a warning for those operating large cargo trucks, moving vans and over-sized vehicles.

At least three different drivers have overestimated the underpass clearance and struck the steel beams in 2015, spurring Talbot St. Bridge Twitter account. It is not a new problem for the City of London, dozens of other drivers have hit the bridge over the years.

The space between the road and bridge only measures 3.3M. There are signs ahead of the underpass in both directions, but city officials hope the new paint will put an end to the "Talbot St. can opener."
