City Handing Out Accessible Parking Signs

The City of London is handing out 500 accessible parking signs to private businesses and apartment buildings to ensure the spots are properly marked for those who need them.

The fine for parking in an accessible parking spot without the appropriate permits is $375.

"We're going to come by and make sure that they're installed properly and inspected and able to enforced. Without enforcement ability, people will disregard the signs and they'll park there and they won't be available to the public," says Manager of Municipal Law Enforcement Services Anette Drost. "We want to make sure that there's enough signage to make sure the people who need the spaces can come to those businesses or apartment buildings and be customers, spend their money."

City officials patrol private property and watch for those abusing the accessible parking spots.

In January, the city raised the fine from $350 to $375.

Drost tells BlackburnNews.com this is not an effort to collect more money, but rather an effort to ensure accessible parking is available when needed.
