A 24-year-old London man now faces more serious charges in connection with the death of a Western student.
Jared Dejong was arrested on Tuesday, October 7 after a vehicle jumped the curb on Lambton Dr. on the campus of Western University and hit 18-year-old Andrea Christidis. She was rushed to hospital but died of her injuries a few days later.
Dejong was initially charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and having in excess of 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.
Police announced Thursday afternoon that, because of Christidis' death, the charges against Dejong have been upgraded to impaired driving causing death, operate motor vehicle over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood causing death, and criminal negligence causing death.
He will appear in court in November.
Police are still investigating the incident and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call 519-661-5670.
