Teen Charged In Robbery

London police have arrested a teen in an early morning mugging.

Police say a 22-year-old woman was walking along Grosvenor St. just after 12:30am Tuesday, when a teenage boy came up behind her and stole her purse.

The boy then demanded the woman's cell phone. He took off after the woman handed it over.

Police arrested the suspect a short while later at Oxford St. and Richmond St..

"In this case she did the right thing by handing over her property to the offender," says Constable Ken Steeves. "If she didn't, who is to say what could have happened? We can't speculate but she was not injured and the property was returned to her."

Police also found a knife, which was not used in the mugging.

A 16-year-old London teen is charged with six offences including robbery, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

He can not be identified because of his age.

Police remind anyone walking alone, regardless of their gender, to keep an eye out for anyone acting suspicious.

"Be vigilant of your surroundings, especially late at night and in dark areas," says Constable Steeves. "If there is any concern at all, most of us carry cell phones, don't hesitate to call 9-1-1 and officers will attend and assist where need be."
