Patient Abusing Psychiatrist Loses Licence

A London psychiatrist serving a sentence for sexually violating several of his female patients has lost his licence to practice.

At a hearing on Monday, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario discipline committee decided to revoke Stanley Dobrowolski's certificate of registration, effective immediately. He was also ordered to reimburse the College for funding for therapy and counselling provided to the patients he abused.

Dobrowolski was arrested in November of 2012 after an investigation that followed allegations he performed physical exams of female patients in which their clothing was removed. In all, 21 women and one teenaged girl said Dobrowolski performed breast, vaginal or full body exams on them during appointments at his Old North home office.

On his computer, investigators found almost 10,000 images of female patients in various states of undress or naked while he examined them, or touched them. Many of the women did not know they were being photographed, and say they never would have agreed to the examination if they knew they were being recorded.

In May of 2014, Dobrowolski pleaded guilty to 16 counts of sexual assault, one count of voyeurism, and one count of breaching a court order.

He was sentenced to four years in a federal penitentiary and forced to comply with a DNA order. He is also banned from owning a gun for ten years, listed on the sexual offender registry for the rest of his life, and banned from communicating with any of the woman he sexually assaulted.
