The MP for London West has been given more responsibility in Parliament.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveiled his list of parliamentary secretaries on Wednesday and named Kate Young Parliamentary Secretary to Transport Minister Marc Garneau.
“It is with great honour and excitement that I accept this challenging new position. I entered politics to support initiatives that would grow our economy and create jobs through strategic investments. Delivering results for the constituents of London West is my top priority, and this appointment will provide the opportunity to do just that,” says Young.
Parliamentary secretaries are appointed by the Prime Minister to help cabinet ministers, occassionally fill in for them during question period, and assume some extra-parliamentary responsibilities.
The position of parliamentary secretary is often considered a training ground for a future cabinet posts.
It also carries with an additional $16,600 in pay, boosting the MP salary of $167,400.
