Provincial police warn laser pointers aren't toys after one was shined in the eyes of a motorist in St. Marys.
Perth OPP say a female driver was stopped at the lights on Queen St. East at Water St. shortly after 11:30pm Sunday when a black SUV pulled up behind her. One of the two men inside the SUV allegedly shined a green laser pointer into the rear view mirror of the woman's vehicle.
Police say the light bounced back into the woman's eyes, temporarily blinding her. The SUV then took off on Queen St. East.
The woman, still experiencing pain behind her eyes, was urged by officers to go to the hospital.
Police are reminding the public to never aim laser pointers at motorists or pilots as they can distract or temporarily flash-blind. Those caught doing so could be charged under the Aeronautics Act, and if convicted could face up to $100,000 in fines and 5 years in prison.
