Charge Laid In Parking Lot Collision

A charge has been laid in connection with a collision in a London parking lot that left a 60-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.

Around 4:45pm on December 30, emergency crews were called to the parking lot at the Canadian Tire store at 3100 Wonderland Rd. A 60-year-old man had been hit by a pickup truck that was driving through the lot.

The pedestrian was rushed to hospital, where he is still in critical condition.

Police announced Thursday morning that 63-year-old Miltiadis Giakoumatos has been charged with one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

The London Police Traffic Management Unit is reminding drivers and pedestrians of their shared responsibility in ensuring he safety of others. Police say there were seven fatalities as a result of collisions in London in 2015. Of the seven people killed, four were pedestrians.

Police say drivers need to be focused on their driving at all times, while pedestrians should use designated crossing areas and make sure motorists see them before trying to cross the street.
