One person is dead following a tractor trailer fire on Hwy. 402 in Plympton-Wyoming.
The Ontario Provincial Police say at about 3:15am on Sunday, emergency crews responded to the westbound lanes of the highway at the Camlachie Rd. overpass. Upon arrival, a Freightliner semi-tractor trailer was found to be fully engulfed in flames.
The OPP say an initial investigation revealed that one person was able to safely escape the transport truck, but attempts to rescue a passenger were unsuccessful. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The name of the victim is being withheld until identification is confirmed and affected family members have been notified.
The westbound lanes of Hwy. 402 were closed between Oil Heritage Rd. and Mandaumin Rd. for most of the day while police and fire officials conducted an investigation. The highway reopened around 7:30pm.
The OPP is asking that anyone with additional information call 519-882-1011 or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
