Hockey Player Charged With Assault

An alleged high sticking incident in a rec-league hockey game in Dorchester has led to charges against a Thames Centre man.

Middlesex OPP say there were called around noon on Sunday to the Dorchester Arena, where it's alleged a hockey player hit another in the head with his stick. The 38-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Police allege the accused, 36-year-old Jason Ashton of Thames Centre, intentionally swung his stick at the victim. He is now charged with assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

Ashton was released from custody with a court date of March 8.
