Police Offer 'Safe Zone' For Online Deals

If you need a safe place to meet the seller of an item you bought online, London police recommend their parking lot.

Police are offering up their lot at 601 Dundas St. as a transaction "safe zone" for those making face-to-face transactions for items purchased on sites such as Kijiji.

The lot is video-monitored 24 hours a day, but police suggest people meet during regular business hours.

Police will not be monitoring or arbitrating the transactions, unless needed to keep the peace in extreme circumstances.

The idea was the brainchild of a member of the force.

Police also offer the following safety tips when making a face-to-face transaction:

- Always insist to meet in a public place - Do not invite strangers into your home, or go into theirs - Communicate via email so that a record is kept of all interactions - Never go alone, bring a family member or friend - When buying or selling high value items, be cautious - Always tell someone when and where you’re going - Do not carry large sums of cash on you

In December, a woman was robbed at knife point after meeting a man selling a cell phone at an apartment on Proudfoot Lane.
